About Is LSU (Baton Rouge) a good school of chemical engineering

Is LSU (Baton Rouge) a good school of chemical engineering?
What do you think of Louisiana State Unviersity for chemical engineering graduate program? Any tips on companies coming to campus, professors, school setting would be appreciated? I would like to work in R&D for energy companies after this. Would you prefer University of Houston or University of Oklahoma over it? If yes, why? Well, I am just asking for opinions (possibly from some alumni. I know the final decision is mine.

Everyone has their opinion on whether a school is good or not. You have to be the ultimate judge of what is suitable for you.
2 :
LSU is widely known as a party school, and the graduates from that school oftentimes don't seem to have the academic background that others in the petroleum industry have. There are exceptions, but overall it's a known stereotype. And that can harm a person's chances of employment. OU would probably be my top choice of the three, only because I'm familiar with their academic reputation and the excellent engineering department. I don't know much about UofH so can't comment. But what about the engineering school at Texas A&M? It's world class and Aggies are known for hiring other Aggies. The networking is amazing, and it's close to Houston where the oil companies are. However, there are tons of Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys employed in the oil industry as well. Doubt this helps, but maybe a little.

Where can I buy Warhammer 40k, specifically eldar, around Baton Rouge or New Orleans?
Areas like Gretna and Marrero on the Westbank can work as well. I cant find anything and I am not a fan of online purchasing, but that seems to be the only way i can get them. If you know of a place in Louisiana, even if its far away from the places I have mentioned, I will be very grateful

On their website Games Workshop has a store finder. Should give you a number of stores in LA. A phone book for the area would also be a good place to look. Go to the Yellow Pages and look up things like games or hobbies and call places that look promising.

Where is there to play Yugioh TCG in Baton Rouge, Louisiana?
I've recently gotten back into yugioh and worked out a good Morphtronic OTK deck that beats the snot outta my current Synchro deck, but the only place to actually play is at school, ad most people dont play often. Are there any places, tournament or just for fun, to play Yugioh in Baton Rouge, Louisiana? Or is there a site online where you can play with cards you have in-person, or at least up to date on booster packs?

About I am moving cross country soon by car; LA to Baton Rouge, How do I move my two cats safely? I love them

I am moving cross country soon by car; LA to Baton Rouge, How do I move my two cats safely? I love them!?
If I put them in a cage can they go without food for the 36 hours the drive will take? Food, water and litter box won't work in a cage in a moving car, right?
Cats - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
of course a cat cannot go 36hours with no food or water you will obviously need to stop the car and feed and water them and put the litter tray on the back seat and let them out to use the toilet [car doors closed of course]that way it should not be to hard to figure out
2 :
You can feed them and water them en route and give them a litter box every few hours when you stop for a break yourself. If you are stopping overnight anywhere try and book into a cat friendly motel (they do exist, people who show cats use them all the time). This would give your cats and you a chance to sleep properly, plus stretch legs, use the litter box and eat well - though a stressed cat might not do any of these things for quite some time.
3 :
you could go to the vet and ask them kitty valium, that will help the cats stay calm. i moved my cat (via plane) from san fran to florida (it took 14 hours-dont ask) she was fine, and she was 14 years old at the time. i would definitely provide food water and a litter box. they have some cat carriers that have built in food and water containers. if you aren't trying to drive straight thru then put a litter box in the hotel room or wherever you are staying. good luck with your travels. by the way, its a nice time to move to Louisiana. fall is usually very nice
4 :
Do you know if your cats have a problem with throwing up in the car? If so, it may be better not to feed them anything(cat's can go a day and half without food. Just be sure to feed them first thing when you get to your destination). If they vomit, they can dehydrate themselves, which is worse. And definitely provide them with water. Secure a dish to their cage that's deep enough to prevent sloshing in a moving vehicle, but shallow enough that your cats can drink from it comfortably. Make sure to refill it as needed(bring lots of water bottles, or buy them at rest stops). If you can, line the bottom with two or three layers of newspaper to absorb urine(in case of accidents), and to keep their paws comfortable. If you have a small disposable baking tray, you can fashion a temporary litter box. This can also be secured to the case to prevent it from sliding all over the place. Place a blanket over their cage so they feel secure, and I don't know what the weather is like over there, but if it's hot, please don't leave them alone in the car for more than a few minutes. Moving can be very stressful for cats, so make sure to comfort them whenever you can. Speak in a soft, high-pitched voice to them. Say their names, and reassure them that everything will be fine. When you reach your new home, they will probably be very frightened, so leave food and water for them, but otherwise let them be to explore and get acclimated. If they are outdoor cats, make sure you keep them indoors for at least three weeks before letting them outside, otherwise they may attempt to return to your old home. I wish you luck.

About Does this not prove that oil is destroying our planet

Does this not prove that oil is destroying our planet?
NEW ORLEANS - Dozens of cargo ships, petrochemical tankers and smaller vessels stacked up Thursday near a closed stretch of the Mississippi River, a day after a collision between a barge and tanker spilled more than 400,000 gallons of fuel oil into the nation's busy shipping waterway. The Coast Guard said reopening nearly 100 miles of river to ship traffic could take days, and efforts to clean up the oily sheen left by largest oil spill on the river since 2000 could take weeks. Many of the ships waited at the river's Gulf of Mexico outlet to head upriver to grain and petrochemical terminals above New Orleans, one of the world's busiest ports. Only about 6,900 gallons of oil had been cleaned from the fast-flowing river by midday Thursday, a fraction of the 419,000 gallons stored aboard the barge that split open early Wednesday in the collision with the Liberian-flagged tanker Tintomara. The Coast Guard said 38 southbound vessels and 21 northbound vessels had been halted, a stackup expected to grow. Grain barges moving south from the American heartland were able to reach huge elevators at the Port of South Louisiana — upriver from New Orleans — but grain cargo ships were unable to continue out through the Gulf of Mexico. A cruise ship scheduled to dock in New Orleans on Friday night probably will be unable to do so, said Coast Guard Capt. Lincoln Stroh, captain of the port of New Orleans. The 2,056-passenger Fantasy is readying contingency plans to dock in nearby Mobile, Ala., if needed, said Tim Gallagher, spokesman for Carnival Cruise Lines. Meanwhile, it was unclear how the ship stoppage would impact the flow of refined products from the 10 petroleum plants that line the river between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La. Calls to refinery officials seeking comment were not immediately returned. But imports of crude oil did not appear to be affected. About 15 percent of U.S. oil imports come through the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port along the coast — the only U.S. port capable of handling the largest oil tankers. The complex is linked by pipeline to refineries. Meanwhile, John Hyatt, vice president of Irwin Brown Co., a New Orleans-based freight forwarder, said it was too early to estimate the overall costs of the shutdown. But he said he expected the tab would quickly climb into the millions of dollars. Paul Book, vice president of American Commercial Lines Inc. of Jeffersonville, Ind., which owns the barge, said about 350 cleanup workers deployed using 45 boats. They initially set out about 50,000 feet of containment booms to collect the fuel oil and planned to lay down another 30,000 feet while some used vacuum skimmers. "This is a very large, very fast-moving river. It makes the job very difficult to contain the oil," said Charlie Henry, scientific coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. State authorities were optimistic environmental damage could be contained, reporting no problems from air quality tests as wildlife officials reported spotting only a few ducks and one egret coated with oil. The fuel oil was expected to join farm chemical runoff and other pollutants dumped in along the Mississippi's 2,300-mile length and its tributaries. The oil spill was the largest on the river since November 2000, when a tanker ran aground about 40 miles south of New Orleans, spilling more than half a million gallons of crude oil on the Mississippi. That spill closed about 26 miles of the river. At the Port of New Orleans, spokesman Chris Bonura said the port stands to lose about $100,000 in fee revenues each day the river stretch remains closed. At the Port of South Louisiana, spanning 54 river miles between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, work was limited to unloading ships already in port, said spokesman Lester Millet. Michael Lorino, president of the Associated Branch Pilots, which guides ships from the Gulf into the Mississippi mouth, reported a backlog of 25 ships in the Gulf and said the line could grow by as many as 20 a day. Meanwhile, authorities said they were investigating why the tugboat towing the barge did not have a properly licensed pilot, the Coast Guard said. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesau said the person operating the tug, who was not identified, had an apprentice mate's license.

2 :
NO! It proves there was an oil spill. There was nothing in that article about planetary destruction.
3 :
"prove"? "destroying"? sure, in the same way that clipping your fingernails is destroying your body.
4 :
Not oil but humans caused the problem, a properly licensed person was not at control of the tug in a part of the river that has strong currents and lots of traffic. Maybe it was the suns fault - or if at night it could have been the moon. Get real - this is a bad problem but not the fault of oil and it is definitely not going to cause the end of the world.
5 :
Where is the part about how oil is destroying the planet? Oil is part of the planet, it comes from the planet, it's made by the planet, sooooo, it is very unlikely that oil will destroy the planet. People destroy things. People also kill people, guns don't. The point being, oil & guns are both tools people use. Used properly thet enhance existance on this planet, but people make mistakes, have accidents and improperly use things, causing death and destruction.

With my company if you sign up for one of the discounts plans, in your area you get a 20% on most of your dental costs at a participating Dr. It is not insurance but a medical/dental discount plan. It allows you to get discounts for dental, vision, chiropractic, prescription and physician visits and it does include orthodontics. The plans start at $19.95 for the entire household and you can start to use it as soon as you sign up. The dental discounts are up to 80% depending on your treatment. If you have any other questions about the plan you can email me. If you would like me to, I could check the participating dentists in your exact area, but I would need a zip code or address and I did a preliminary check and there are 14 in baton rouge. Let me know! Good Luck.. The website is http://www.MyBenefitsPlus.com/nicolec My email is mybenefits@scentfuldesigns.com

I will likely work fine. I have traveled across the country and only had a few times when my tracfone didn't have service
2 :
It will work OK in most places but she will have the same number, so will have to call long distance to a friend in the next room & can call home easily.
3 :
There's no such thing as "Long Distance" phone calls on Tracfone (or "anytime" vs. "daytime" minutes either). No matter where you take it, it's the same one-minute-per-minute taken off of your prepaid minutes. But as someone else points out, it will keep its same number and area code, so calling TO your cell phone becomes long distance from a land line phone outside your local dialing area.

About Why won't most evacuees of Katrina , that are now in Baton Rouge ,go back to work

Why won't most evacuees of Katrina , that are now in Baton Rouge ,go back to work??
I live near Baton Rouge and I myself am an evacuee. I lost my home and my job when Katrina hit. Now,6 months later I am in a nice 1 bdrm apartment. I have furnished it with some things that were salvagable from my damaged home. (it was crushed, not flooded). I have also bought new luxuries like this computer. I have food to eat, cigs to smoke, beer in the fridge. I am very depressed sometimes, but I try not to dwell on my losses. I am a little edgy sometimes because I still have to fix my home and acerage which is about 100 miles from where I live now. I have about 25 oak trees about 3' in diameter, stumps and roots sticking out of the ground evrywhere out there. But the reason I am living ok now is because I made it happen. HOW?...I got a job in Nov in Baton Rouge. I am a cook, so I went to work at a restaurant. The place is so short-handed that I got a good raise within the first month. plus since no one wants to work I get loads of O.T..Why cant others do the same? GET JOBS

Well, unless you are College age and would enjoy that type of atmosphere, I'm not sure. Its kinda crowded there these days after Katrina. South Louisiana has it's own unique flair, but you must be the type of person who can enjoy it and be able to look over some of the not so great attributes! As far as working there, I hope you are already considering a job that has been offered to you, because I don't think the job market is that great there right now.

i live about 10 minutes away from baton rouge, but i go there all the time. i like thats its not too big to find stuff (maybe thats cuz i'm used to it), but other than that i like thats it not trashy like new orleans. and i consider the traffic bad in comparison to where i live, but definitely not as hectic as other cities ive been to!! its also got lots of historical and beautiful places and buildings.

About What to do about my parents

What to do about my parents?
My parents insist on treating me like a child. I am 21 and I know I still have a lot of growing up to do. I respect that I live under their roof and have to obey their rules. Heres the situation: Me and my friends want to go to Florida for a few days to just get away and have some fun before I return to college. All three of us are females. My parents are objecting to my going claiming that if we go we could be raped or murdered. But I work in Baton Rouge and can be murdered or raped just going to my car! I don't have many friends and never have any fun. I work and come home. That is all I ever do. I am good daughter and not wild. I'm not asking them for money or anything to go down there. But I want to go so bad. I'm sick of my martyr lifestyle. How can I persuade them to let me go? They said the only way would be for me to move out and that is something I can't do yet (financially wise.) Please help!!

They are showing love, enjoy it, one day it won't be there. They only want the best for their daughter. Good luck and God bless!
2 :
You really need to start saving some money so you can move out. It is insane that they won't let you go! In the meantime, good luck with getting them to change their mind about the trip. Just prove to them that you will be safe. Tell them you'll carry pepper spray and be careful about your surroundings.
3 :
Hii there, wow I'm sooo sorry about your situation!! ii think you should just move out and in with a friend, share rent ect... so you don't have to pay the whole rent its half half :) your parents should let you go... after all your 21 and just because you live in there house doesn't mean they decide if you can go away for acouple days, they decide what you do in the house if that makes sense :S Good Luck ii hope ii helped!!
4 :
hey your 21 if you want to go then go! your paying for it right?but listen i have two kids myself and its hard to let go you need to resure them maybe make a deal like call in at certain times so they don't worry so much! they sound like good parents just over protected to much.
5 :
well they might have a hard time of letting you go sense your all grown up. Your parents really can't tell you what to do, your 21 you are legally an adult now you should be able to make your own decisions and your parents should respect that. But what I think is that they are having a hard time letting you go so you should understand that too. Good Luck!
6 :
Just go and let the chips fall where they may. Trust me they wont kick you out or they would have nothing to rule over. They need you around so they have someone to abuse. Im very sorry for you. Please just go. take a risk.
7 :
I suggest telling them that they need to understand that they raised you to make good decisions and they should try to trust you a little more. Tell them you won't go anywhere without each other (safety in numbers) and will call while you are gone to let them know you are ok so they won't worry. Tell them you love them and respect the fact that they worry about your safety, that what they think is important to you, but you really need a little time away to relax. Show them you have thought this through and will take every precaution to have a safe trip. If they were good parents maybe they will think about all that a little and have a bit more confidence in you. They might not be comfortable about you going but if they believe you take their concerns seriously and have given the trip alot of thought, I think that will ease their minds at least a little bit and they won't be so quick to threaten to kick you out. I can really understand how they are making you a little nuts.. I had to move back in with my parents for a while at 28 yrs with an 8 yr old son of my own when I was going through a divorce and my mom wanted to warp me back to 15.. even as far as trying to tell me when to go to bed for goodness sakes! So I'm feeling your pain ;D Just remember, they only worry because they love you ^.^ and it WILL get better, just probably not ever as much as you wish it would LoL ;D If your folks are anything like mine, they'll probably still be trying to "advise" you when you're 50!!

Apply everywhere that hires customer service people with no experience necessary. e.g. fast food places, clothing stores, music stores, etc. etc. Call these places to see if they're hiring. If they are, don't just drop off your resume; go in and ask to talk to whoever hires people. Ask some questions about the job, introduce yourself, and give them your resume. This will greatly increase your chances of getting hired.

Gosh, Baker huh?? I went to zachary every weekend for like two months in march and april. You should see if you can work in Baker, its still a 15 minute drive to get INTO Baton Rouge and you'd have to depend on someone to take you there. I know they have day cares and pre-schools in Baker and they probably could hire you atleast part time. Thats a good place to work if you're 15. You get experience with kids and adults alike and its good for your resume'. Plus, if you're a good worker, they like keeping their workers to work after school hours.

Go to google & put the zip code then you can get a list of apartments & become a lifegaurd at one of them. My son did that when he was about your age & it was great. I think it would be easier to do that now that make-up cause the economy is not so great but of course look for places that sell makeup too.
